Jason Mansfield

Veterinarian & Practice Owner (BVSc)

Most people will recognise him from his work in Proserpine and the Whitsundays, however for those who haven't met him, here's a little bit about Dr Jason Mansfield. The driving force behind the business, he is no stranger to hard work and looks forward to meeting you and your animals.

"I grew up in Sarina on a small cattle property. I have always loved and enjoyed animals growing up on the farm and ever since I was 6 years old, I remember wanting to be a vet. I graduated from James Cook University in December 2014 and was given the opportunity to work at Proserpine Vet Surgery in 2015. I have lived and breathed Veterinary Science ever since that date and have learnt it’s not a job, it’s a lifestyle and the relationship you build with clients and their animals is always something I find very special. I am a true mixed practice veterinarian and enjoy working with all animals, big and small, to help with their health dilemmas. Those who know me know that I do like my cows, but I try not to let the horses, dogs and cats know that. Even though I am new to Bowen it still feels like home is just down the road, if you see me down the street feel free to stop me and say g’day."

Mel Cavacas

Veterinarian (BVSc)

"I grew up on a small property South of Proserpine and have too many pets of my own to name! My parents indulged my love of animals from a young age, which encouraged my drive to become a vet. I love all aspects of the veterinary industry but my main passion lies in surgery and ultrasonography. I enjoy working with animals both small and large, and enjoy the different challenges associated with their varied illnesses. I graduated in 2014 (alongside Jason) and have had the pleasure of working in Brisbane, Sarina and Proserpine before joining the great team at GWVS (which of course is the best so far). I enjoy all aspects of small-town communities and can’t wait to be a familiar face giving the best care possible for you and all your beloved pets!"

Kate

Registered Veterinary Nurse & Practice Manager (Cert IV Veterinary Nursing, AVNAT Registered Veterinary Nurse)

Kate has been working in the veterinary industry as a nurse for 7 years and with Greater Whitsunday Vet Services since its establishment in 2020. Outside of work she is most often found at a horse show or clinic with her Thoroughbred horse, Vodka, and Australian Kelpie, Chase. She loves the diversity of veterinary nursing and being able to expand her knowledge in any given field depending on what the day presents.

Georgia

Veterinary Nurse (Cert IV Veterinary Nursing, Cert II Agriculture)

Georgia's devotion for large animals commenced at a very young age as she grew up on a cattle property west of Bloomsbury. Although cattle & horses have her most interest she still enjoys all aspects of nursing life. While Georgia has only recently joined our team, she has been nursing for 4 years since completing school. Georgia then made the move to GWVS, following her former colleague Dr Jason, to further her career in the large animal industry. She is extremely eager to grow her knowledge and help improve primary producers' herds in terms of breeding (AI, preg testing, bull testing, and all round health).

Outside of work you will find her competing in challenges/campdrafts and ASH events. She also loves the gym, her Border Collie "Goose", going home to help her folks on their property and most of all having a rum or beer with her mates.

Jess T-J

Receptionist

Jess is a staple of the community, having been within the Bowen veterinary industry for 16 years and in Bowen since 1998. As our receptionist she is the face of our practice, and effectively greets and assists our valued clients. She has two dogs- Snorkel ("the crazy one"), and Mr T ("the good boy"), plus a gazillion fish. When not running around after her two kids (Darcy and Seth) and her husband, she enjoys getting crafty. She loves horses and even rode competitively in rodeo for a period of time. Being out in the great outdoors is another passion, as she is often found fishing and camping with her family.

Jessie

Veterinary Nurse (Cert II Animal Studies)

Jess has been with us for 1 year, however working as a veterinary nurse for 6 years. With her qualification of Cert II in Animal Studies, Jess loves to get out in the great outdoors. When not working she is most often found camping or fishing, or on some other adventure in the Whitsundays with her partner.

When she's not riding endurance with her cheeky horse "Uno", she spends her time hanging out with her friends and family.

Lysa

Lysa has been with us for a couple of months now and is an asset to the team. She is working towards her animal studies and subsequently veterinary nursing qualifications. Her pets include turtles, dogs, cattle, and a barramundi named Bazza. When not in the clinic, she loves adventuring, 4WDing, fishing and hunting.

Charlee

Trainee Veterinary Nurse (Cert II Animal Studies)

Ever since she was a little girl, Charlee wanted to work in the vet industry. In 2017 she started an after school job in Proserpine, and later graduated high school with a Certificate 2 in Animal Studies in 2020. She is now working towards a Certificate 4 in Vet Nursing. "Although I’m only new to the clinic, I feel so blessed to work with such a great team of nurses and vets. When I’m not in the clinic you’ll probably find me at the beach with my dog, or watching footy with my partner on weekends."
